I have never personally worked with Expression Engine, but I have heard that it is an incredibly powerful and extensible CMS. Perhaps I can talk them into giving me a demo to write about.

Our CMS datAvenger has a FREE version to be used by startups and clubs/organizations- but has other versions too including a Professional version with complex navigation support, modules for Press Releases, News, Video, Employment, Directories, RSS feeds, Calendars and more!

datAvenger is simple and conforms to any design.

I use MySource Matrix as my CMS.

The full version is a little tricky to install at the beginning but the forums help you find the way.

They've also released another MUCH simpler version for free on VM here http://mini.squiz.net/download
